Watson & Band Intellectual Property Agent Ltd. (hereinafter “W&B Agent Ltd.”) was established by Watson & Band Law Offices in 2002 for the purpose of specializing in trademark and copyright registration services.

In April 2016, Watson & Band Management Group was established and its members includes, namely, Watson & Band Law Offices and W&B Agent Ltd. Watson & Band Management Group transferred the patent/trademark prosecution and agency services originally handled by Watson & Band Law Offices to W&B Agent Ltd., along with the relevant patent/trademark agents.

Headquartered in Shanghai, W&B Agent Ltd. operates a branch office in Beijing. Presently it employs 50 patent agents, 6 trademark agents and 2 agents who specialize in handling copyright and Customs IP agency and registration services. Our team members include former officers from the Patent Office and the Trademark Office of the Shanghai Municipal Administration for Industry and Commerce, 4 senior patent agents and trademark agents with over 25 years of experience in patent and trademark agency services, and 20 patent agents who are also qualified attorneys at law.

Our patent agency services cover various technical fields such as chemistry, biology, medicine, mechanics, electronics, communication, optics and physics, as well as designs patents, searches, patent validity analysis, infringement analysis, requests for invalidity declaration, litigation and patent consultation, etc. We have established a patent agency service department responsible for special clients. Agents from various technical divisions all have rich experience and are able to work with several languages.

In addition to patent prosecution and agency services, Agents from W&B Agent Ltd. have participated in a great number of cases involving patent validity analysis, infringement analysis, patent invalidity declarations and patent infringement lawsuits. For example, we represented clients for both the first patent infringement lawsuit in China between two foreign companies and the first patent infringement lawsuit filed by a Japanese company against a domestic company. Both of these lawsuits resulted in favorable judgments for our clients. W&B Agent Ltd. flexibly applies the experience it has acquired in the infringement cases to its prosecution and agency services, allowing it to provide clients with consistently high-quality representation in patent applications and trademark registrations.

Trademark agents of W&B Agent Ltd. have represented clients in a number of well-known IP cases in China. Among them, we managed to obtain recognition for well-known trademarks through civil litigation and trademark review procedures. Through use of the trademark rejection procedure we have obtained approvals for trademark registration, and through the use of trademark opposition procedures we have curbed trademark squatting. We have also revoked device trademarks.

W&B Agent Ltd. also provides clients with agency services such as copyright and Customs IP right recordation and registration.

W&B Agent Ltd, has independently developed a service management system, which, in addition to the conventional functions of file management and time limit control, has a unique function for the analysis and statistics of office actions and observations. The system’s statistical data may be either used for assessing the agents’ professional skills and improving their services, or provided to the clients for use in analysis and evaluation of patent applications.
