On December 16, Mr. Xiaosu Zhu, a partner lawyer of Watson & Band, was invited to hold offline training sessions regarding “Legal Compliance in Performing Arts Group Operation” for the “2nd Edition of the Network of the Silk Road Arts Festivals Master Class”. More than 20 practitioners from Shanghai municipal troupes and private cultural enterprises attended the training sessions and were officially included in the “Silk Road Arts Festivals Performance Talent Pool”.
With the strong support of Bureau of International Exchange and Cooperation, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the People’s Republic of China and Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, this master class is the 2nd edition hosted by the Center for China Shanghai International Arts Festival after the first one in 2020, inviting 16 senior mentors from China, Romania, Germany, Singapore, United Kingdom and United States including lawyer Zhu who are active at the forefront of production and operation of performing arts projects to deliver intensive courses for 4 days.
With his abundant knowledge and rich experience in providing legal services in cultural media industry, Mr. Zhu shared insights on risk prevention and legal compliance in copyright licensing for performing arts project contracts in view of the feature of business area of the participants, and provided practical advice through introducing and analyzing an array of typical cases to help performance talents cope with specific issues in practice. Inspired by the sessions, many participants shared their views with Mr. Zhu on certain issues after the training.
